PRESENTATION OF AN R&D PROJECT– GUIDELINES

Invitation

The LTRC was created to encourage the implementation of large-scale research projects and the sharing of expert knowledge in the field of language technology. To accomplish its goals, the LTRC provides researchers and experts, as well as Canadian businesses and organizations active in the language industry, with the opportunity to work with groups of researchers or leaders in the field and to take advantage of cutting-edge research infrastructures.

Eager to help you explore and form new research collaborations both nationally and internationally, the LTRC will put a group of researchers and experts at your disposal to assist you in your R&D projects (see Expertise). In addition, the LTRC will provide access to a pool of students and trainees-potentially important resources to help you carry out, and maximize the benefits of, your projects.

Among the cutting edge facilities, equipment, and software at your disposal are the Translation Bureau's vast terminological databases and corpora.

The LTRC's business development advisor will be able to direct you towards available sources of funding. The advisor can also assist you in undertaking the steps to obtain additional funding and aid for research activities from our partners and major funding agencies. Finally, resource people in intellectual property management, research promotion, commercialization, and business creation in the language technology industry will be available to support the technological and commercial development of your R&D work.

To whom is a project submitted?

At the Language Technologies Research Centre (LTRC), R&D projects in language technologies are first received by the Scientific Committee. The committee evaluates the quality of the file that has been submitted and the technical relevance of the project. It then sends the file and its recommendation to the LTRC's board of directors, who decides to accept or reject the project, in accordance with the LTRC's mission and objectives.

Four copies of the project must be sent to:

Scientific Committee – Confidential
Attn: Pierre Isabelle
President, Scientific Committee, LTRC
Group Leader, Interactive Language Technologies, NRC
101 Saint-Jean-Bosco Street, Room A-1330
P.O. Box 1250, Hull Station
Gatineau, Quebec  J8X 3X7

Who can submit a project?

Canadian individuals, businesses, and organizations can submit a research project to the LTRC.

What needs to be included in a project file?

Proposers must fill out the attached form. Each section of the form will be used to evaluate the project.

In order to ensure that submitted projects are evaluated quickly and fairly, the Scientific committee will only examine projects that have been submitted in the requested format. In addition to ensuring that the application is processed quickly and fairly, presenting a project in the requested format will facilitate the process of drawing up an agreement with the LTRC, in the event that the project is accepted.
